Over the course of nearly a decade, Dublin, Ireland’s Fontaines D.C., has cultivated an audience that is one performance at a time. Their take on Post-Punk across four albums has ensnared them a larger audience upon each subsequent release. Couple that with a reputation as an explosive live act, and you have a recipe for success that seems inevitable rather than possible. Romance is the title of the band’s fourth recording, and it’s poised to be their breakout album. Released last August, the band is trudging across North America, and the tour brought them to a sold-out performance in Chicago on Wednesday. They also arrived with their aforementioned reputation as a phenomenal live show completely intact. The show was an almost instant sell-out when tickets went on sale, and the band didn’t disappoint. While the focal point is certainly lead singer Grian Chatten, his bandmates proved to be an excellent musical engine that helped to propel every member’s performance into the stratosphere. Over the course of nineteen songs, the combustible quintet gave the faithful precisely what they came for and further cemented the assumption that these lads will continue to prove that they are the real deal.
