Stage Buzz: Pravda Records Anniversary at FitzGerald’s, Mac Sabbath, Pearl Jam, TLC

| August 26, 2024

What do you get when you combine an iconic metal band with an iconic fast-food chain? Mac Sabbath. These self-appointed founders of “Drive Thru Metal” are known for parody versions of Black Sabbath songs, which include “Frying Pan,” (“Iron Man”), “Pair-a-Buns” (“Paranoid”), “Sweet Beef” (“Sweet Leaf”), and “Zipping Up the Uniform” (“Symptom of the Universe”). Celebrating ten years of munching and mayhem, the band will perform at Reggie’s Rock Club this Wednesday, August 28th, at 7:30 PM. Grab tickets while you still can.

Pearl Jam, one of the undisputed Big Four of grunge, is among the most celebrated rock bands. With more than 85 million albums sold worldwide, numerous charting singles, and award wins, the band has more than earned their legendary status. Songs like “Even Flow,” “Alive,” and “Jeremy” continue to resonate with fans old and new. And with their latest album, Dark Matter, their legendary status only strengthens. Hear the latest and greatest from Pearl Jam during their two-night stand at Wrigley Field on August 29th and August 31st at 7 PM. You can still get tickets here.

TLC suffered a great loss with the death of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes in 2002. Yet, the group, now a duo, continues their legacy. To celebrate their long-lasting career, the duo will bring hits like “Waterfalls,” “No Scrubs,” “Creep,” and “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg” to the Ravina Festival in Highland Park this Saturday, August 31st at 7:30 PM. Tickets are available here.

One of Chicago’s most storied record labels celebrates its 40th anniversary at one of Chicago’s most celebrated venues – FitzGerald’s on August 31. An impressive birthday lineup for Pravda Records kicks off at noon on Saturday, August 31, with 17 bands on three stages featuring the label’s current artists and surprise musical reunions from the label’s diverse roster. Kenn Goodman and roommate Rick Mosher founded Pravda Records while studying at Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. That’s also where they met Sheila Sachs, Pravda’s VP of Production and the creative powerhouse behind the label’s artwork and album designs. The label moved operations to Chicago in 1985, where it continues to be the musical home to artists from Chicago and around the world. Highlighted artists include Nathan Graham, Steve Dawson, Sunshine Boys, Ivan Julian (featuring Nick Tremulis), plus our favorites from the label’s early days: The Service and The Slugs. Tickets are available here.
