Thomas Rhett appears at Windy City Smokeout

One of Chicago’s most beloved music fests that haven’t fled to the suburbs this year, Windy City Smokeout, is back in the United Center parking lot this weekend with an impressive country lineup, including Thomas Rhett, Parker McCollum, Cody Johnson, and Carrie Underwood. The event also features some of the country’s best BBQ and craft beer options. It all happens July 11-14; see the full line-up and ticket options here. (-David Gedge)

Street Fest Square Roots returns to Lincoln Square this weekend. The festival brings out the best of Lincoln Square, from art vendors to local cuisine. Be sure to stop by to catch performances from The New Pornographers, X, Lydia Loveless, Jah Wobble, Big Star, Jody Stephens, Ivan Singh, Jon Spender, Finom, and more. The party starts Friday, July 12, and lasts through Sunday, July 14. See the full lineup and get tickets here.

Canadian indie rock band Mother Mother blew up during the pandemic thanks to their songs like “Hayloft” and “Hayloft II” going viral online. The truth is they’ve been around since 2005 and returned with their ninth album, Grief Chapter, earlier this year. Their honest lyrics and high-energy songs continue to connect with fans and, as the pandemic showed, reach new audiences. The band will play Huntington Bank Pavilion at Northerly Island with Cavetown, Destroy Boys, and Meet Me @ The Altar this Saturday, July 13th, at 6:30 PM. Find tickets here.

Russian punk rock band Pussy Riot is unstoppable. The group fearlessly speaks out against President Vladimir Putin, misogyny, homophobia, and Russian leadership. Though they’ve faced their share of opposition, legal troubles, and even arrest, they continue their undying activism. Catch Pussy Riot live at Outset this Saturday, July 13th at 8 PM. Grab tickets here.
