Few celebrate summer like Chicago. It seemingly takes forever to arrive and vanishes in an eye blink. So, when an evening presents itself as the perfect combination of weather and soundtrack, it feels like an absolute victory.
Such was the case this past Friday. In the shadow of the Chicago River, Houston’s Khurangbin, the genre-bending combo, eased itself into their performance, using the first of two sets of music to delve into their latest release (A LA SALA) by playing it sequentially and in its entirety. The leisurely grooves and spacious notes were the perfect vibe for welcoming the approaching Solstice.
With the city’s skyline serving as a pristine backdrop, the trio sounded as if they were whispering the season into existence, which, somehow, is precisely what they were doing.
