Stage Buzz: Local H, Umphrey’s McGee, Patti Smith
Patti Smith is one of the most influential figures of the New York City punk rock movement. Her fusion of punk rock and poetry earned her the title of Punk poet laureate. With groundbreaking albums like Horses, Gone Again, and Peace and Noise, she remains an inspiration to creatives today. Just days before her birthday, the Chicago native will perform at The Salt Shed on Wednesday, December 27 at 8 PM. You can still get tickets here.
DJ extraordinaire Steve Aoki brings the party with him everywhere he goes. His electro-house sound and energetic live shows are nothing but good vibes and good times, with the occasional cake in the face. See Aoki perform magic behind the DJ kit when performing at Tao Chicago this Thursday, December 28, at 10 PM. Grab tickets here.
Chicago favorite Umphrey’s McGee has spent the past year celebrating their 25th anniversary. The celebration finally comes to a close this weekend with a three-night stint at the Riviera Theatre on December 29 – 31st with special guests drummers Mike Portnoy, Rory Dolan, and Ben Atikind on select nights. If you don’t want to miss the celebration, make sure to get tickets here.
Local heroes Local H craved a name for themselves during the post-grunge landscape of the ’90s. Just as the band was getting started, half of the four-piece jumped shipped. But Scott Lucas and co-founding drummer Joe Daniels soldiered on as a duo. They would go on to find success thanks to their radio hit “Bound for the Floor” and their 1998 album Pack Up the Cats. Thirty years later, Lucas and current drummer Ryan Harding (who has been in the band for a decade (!)) are still going strong. The two will receive a hero’s welcome when they return to their hometown to play a New Year’s Eve show at Bottom Lounge on December 31 at 10 PM. Tickets are available here.
