Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Steve Hackett brought the groundbreaking Genesis 1972 album Foxtrot to the Pabst Theater in Milwaukee Friday. Let’s say it’s probably the closest any member, past or present, will ever achieve recreating the classic era of the band in the 21st Century. But before the main course, the guitar great gave fans a taste of everything he’s been up to since leaving the band in the late 1970s, and thankfully, it ranked right up there in terms of technical abilities and adventure.
As much as the audience loved the first set’s “Ace Of Wands” through “Shadow Of The Hierophant,” nothing could touch “Watcher Of The Skies,” sung spot on by Nad Sylvan, and other album tracks such as “Get ‘Em Out By Friday” and “Horizons.” Yet the primary draw was likely “Supper’s Ready,” performed in its epic entirety and well worth the price of the entire ticket, followed by a generous encore of “Firth Of Fifth” and “Los Endos” that was equally unforgettable.
