Stage Buzz: Yaeji, Waterparks, Doyle, Dru Hill
Co-founding Misfits groundbreaking Guitarist Doyle comes to town with two shows. Tuesday May 9 at Hobart Art Theatre and May 10 at WC Social Club. His set features his acclaimed solo material and Misfits classics.
Yaeji is a bonafide triple threat. The Brooklyn-based singer, producer, and DJ has rightly earned her buzzworthy status on the backs of EPs and mix tapes that grabbed everyone’s attention. Blending elements of hip-hop and house music with her quiet vocals, her music is somehow mellow, catchy, and groovy all at once. In support of her debut album, With a Hammer, Yaeji will perform at The Vic Theatre on Wednesday, May 10. Doors open at 8 PM. Tickets are available here.
Gladys Knight isn’t known as the Empress of Soul for nothing. She’s earned many accolades throughout her storied career, including multiple number-one hits, seven Grammy awards, being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and being awarded at the 45th Annual Kennedy Center Honors. And that doesn’t even cover half of her achievements. She is the epitome of a living legend. See the legend in person at the Chicago Theatre on Thursday, May 11th at 7:30 PM. Get tickets here.
If you asked who’s leading the next generation of pop-punk outfits, Waterparks would take the title. Never afraid to break genre, the band continues to push boundaries on their latest album INTELLUCTUAL PROPERTY. Expect to hear cuts from the new album, along with fan favorites, during their two-night stint at the House of Blues on Friday, May 12 and Saturday, May 13. You can still grab tickets here.
For the past 25 years, Dru Hill has given us hit after hit, such as “Tell Me,” “In My Bed,” and “We’re Not Making Love No More.” Now, the newly reunited band will celebrate their successful career on their 25th-anniversary tour, which stops in Chicago on Sunday, May 14, at the Chicago Theatre. Jagged Edge and Shai join as support. Grab tickets here.
