Stage Buzz: We Came As Romans, Great Pretenders, GoRilla, Norma Jean
The future of We Came as Romans was uncertain when frontman Kyle Pavone passed away in 2018. Rather than call it quits, the band decided to move forward without replacing Pavone as a way of honoring his memory. With keyboardist Dave Stephens taking over vocal duties, the band released its sixth album Darkbloom last year. You can hear new cuts from the latest album as well as classics when the band plays the House of Blues on Wednesday, February 15. Doors open at 6 PM. You can still get tickets here.
The year isn’t even halfway over, and rapper GloRilla is proving herself buzzworthy. After her song “F.N.F. (Let’s Go)” went viral on TikTok last year, she’s been one of rap’s most promising stars. The song went on to be nominated for two BET Hip Hop Awards. Her flow and her crunk-based music have turned the heads of fans, peers, and critics alike. Now, you can catch this rapper on the rise when she plays at the Patio Theater on Thursday, February 16, at 7 PM. SOLD OUT
Hardrockers Norma Jean have been around long enough to experience their share of ups and downs. Yet, despite various member lineup changes throughout the years, the band keeps finding ways to stay fresh and exciting. Even nine albums in, they continue to keep audiences on their toes by deviating from their hardcore sound from time to time to explore new sonic territories. In support of their latest album Deathrattle Sing For Me, the band will bring their eclectic sound to Bottom Lounge on Thursday, February 16, with support from Fire from the Gods and Greyhaven. Get tickets here.
Acclaimed Chicago-based Pretenders tribute, The Great Pretenders, come to the Raue Center in Crystal Lake on Saturday, February 18. Suzanne Cross does Chrissie Hynde proud as lead vocalist, and she’s backed by an all-star band that includes members of local stalwarts Deacon Blues. Tickets are available here.
