Stage Buzz: Chicago Domination Fest • Brauerhouse • Lombard

After six successful years of Chicago Domination Fest (CDF), the 7th edition is back after a two-year hiatus (due to the global pandemic) from July 28 to 30 at Brauerhouse in Lombard.

With three days of intense, non-stop brutal death metal with 32 bands confirmed, CDF7 promises to be even more crushing than previous fests.

The first CDF shows ran from 2005 to 2008 at the Wire in Berwyn before taking a hiatus, then commencing again in 2014. CDF CEO and promoter Miguel “Goregrinder” Medina has built the festival from its modest beginnings to what it has become today.

“While it’s successful in its own way by not really expanding the horizons of the genres that I’m including within my festival, it sort of hurts the draw a little bit in a sense,” Medina explained during a recent phone interview. “But at the same time, it’s become synonymous with being one of the biggest underground death metal concerts in the country.”

Some of the amazing veteran bands on the bill include Pyrexia, Mortal Decay, Gorgasm, Kill Everything, Lust of Decay, and many more. Medina’s own band, Virulent Excision, is performing on opening night. Fans of brutal death and slam metal should not miss this event.

“(People can expect) extreme brutal music,” Medina said of the festival. “(That’s) exactly what the people are coming to this event are paying for, and I expect to deliver on all fronts when it comes to that. If you’re somebody that is into this specific style of music, it’s literally the mecca of brutality.”

The future of CDF looks pretty promising, as Medina has already started planning next year’s fest.
