Recap and photos by Curt Baran
When Nevermind broke in the early 1990s, the inevitable aftermath was that every record label was now on the hunt for the next Nirvana. New York trio Jawbreaker was one of the countless bands swept up in the hype.
Most bands, Jawbreaker included, didn’t move enough “units” and were either dropped or retreated back to independent labels. By 1996, the band had packed it in.
But Jawbreaker’s musical reputation slowly grew as their music became affiliated with the newly emerging Emo movement. Fast forward to 2017 and the trio would reunite and finally reap the spoils. Earlier this week, the band landed at Chicago’s House Of Blues for the first of FOUR evenings celebrating the 25th Anniversary of the Dear You recording.
They also invited the Chicago-based and former tour mates Smoking Popes as well as the Boise, Idaho trio Built To Spill along for the victory lap.
