Photo Gallery: Lana Del Rey at Aragon Ballroom

| November 11, 2019

Seduction arrived in Uptown this past weekend in the form of the “Norman Fucking Rockwell!” tour. Sharing a name with the recently released album by Lana Del Rey, the West Coast native cooed and purred her way through 18 career-spanning songs that also included guest appearances from evening openers Lucy Dacus and Best Coast’s Bethany Cosentino. Rey seamlessly shifted from rock star, to lounge singer, to chanteuse and back again, convincingly inheriting whatever guise helped sell the material.

The evening also felt like an undersell opportunity, specifically because she probably could have sold out a much larger venue. This advantage was used to great effect, a point driven home when slithered herself onto the body of a baby grand piano during a cover of Joni Mitchell’s “For Free.” It was a classic New Years Eve lounge singer diva move that made the cavernous Aragon Ballroom feel more like the intimate confines of the Green Mill that resides half a block away.
