Stage Buzz: King Crimson at The Auditorium Theatre
As the godfathers of progressive rock, you won’t find a band with a more dedicated cult following and more influence as King Crimson. Their 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King is the benchmark for the prog-rock movement. Led by inventive “quality control” guitarist Robert Fripp, the band’s line-up has been noted for its turnover while still maintaining musical quality in its five decade lifespan, including recognized members Greg Lake (Emerson Lake and Palmer) John Wetton (Asia) and uber musicians Adrian Belew and Tony Levin. Indeed, one special thing about the band has been their improvisational, layered and storied musical output in an ever changing line-up.
On their 50th Anniversary tour, Fripp and Levin are allowing the back catalog to be discovered with even more musical muscle that only King Crimson can deliver. Fripp calls the shots on the set list on a night-by-night basis and with a 60 song rotation that could be called on at any moment.
Performing at Roosevelt University’s Auditorium Theatre will be the ultimate sonic treat for KC fans, with it’s near perfect acoustics. Chicago brings out the best the band as their Official Bootleg: Live in Chicago, June 28th, 2017 album is notably one of their best of the modern KC era. Expect similar results on Tuesday.
