Photo Gallery: Smashing Pumpkins with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and AFI at Hollywood Casino Amphitheater
Tinley Park set the musical way back machine for a sojourn deep into the ’90s. Like it or not, many Pumpkin’s and Oasis fans came to hear the music of their youth. In the end, the night was a celebration of the modern era and the salad-days.
Hollywood Casino Amphitheater played host to two of that decades biggest product pushers this past week. Former Oasis member Noel Gallagher has hit the road in advance of his latest offering This Is The Place, and had his band High Flying Birds in tow.
Chicago’s own Smashing Pumpkins were also part of the co-headlining bill. The newly reconstituted collection from frontman Billy Corgan now consists of three quarters of the original classic lineup with the re-addition of guitarist James Iha and the powerhouse drummer that is Jimmy Chamberlin, plus acclaimed bassist and all around nice guy (and Peter Hook’s son), Jack Bates and longtime Pumpkins 2.0 guitarist Jeff Schroeder.
They also brought along gothic hard rockers A.F.I. to help round out an evening that was equal parts looking forward and a celebration of the past.
