Photo Gallery: Korn and Alice in Chains at Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre

| August 25, 2019

The cool in the evening air hinted that summer might be eyeing its inevitable exit. But the upside to that is that it results in a perfect evening for outdoor music and the Chicagoland area continues to show no signs of surrender when facing down the waning, open-air concert season. Two mavericks of the ’90s former Metal scene converged on Tinley Park’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre early this week to remind everyone of their legacy. Seattle’s Alice In Chains and Bakersfield’s finest Korn brought their co-heading tour to the masses filling the cavernous pavilion and spilling mightily out on to the lawn. The former has always been linked to the 90’s Grunge movement, but AIC always leaned to the metal side of that genre’s more macabre themes. Korn helped cement Nu Metal, a hybrid of distorted heaviness and down tuning married to hip hop pacing, as a movement all its own. Both bands convincingly left it all on the boards, leaving their standings in each of their respected, musical pantheons firmly intact.
