Photo Gallery: The 1975 at United Center
Manchester’s The 1975 were greeted with an expected rapturous ovation when they took the stage at United Center Thursday. Hand it to the band, they’ve diligently worked Sunday side stages at Lollapalooza, and “smaller” shows at Lincoln Hall and the Riviera to slowly build an audience to finally play the United Center.
The band is on the road supporting their third album A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (and ahead of a fourth record also promised this year), playing to some of the largest crowds they’ve seen. Lead singer Matt Healy has his already baptized audience mesmerized with his quirky stage presence in-between song hits of cigarettes and red wine. But it was the band’s blend of indie rock, synth-rock atmospherics and dance beats that had all the kids finding the orbit of their hips.
