Stage Buzz: TNK Fest at Various Venues; Denny Laine at Arcada Theatre and Evanston Rocks

| January 17, 2019

TNK Fest – January 16 – 20, 2019

Originally founded in 2005 as a live musical oasis in a slow winter music period (past performers include Father John Misty and Bon Iver), Tomorrow Never Knows Fest is back with a bit more competition in a traditionally slow concert month in Chicago. Curated by the talent buyers at Lincoln Hall and Schubas, the schedules are heavily weighted with performances at those venues. Highlights for us include alt-country breakout band Sarah Shook and The Disarmers at Lincoln Hall (Friday, January 18), powered by her best of 2018 album, Years. Shook is everything you’d want in a street savvy, unassuming, rootsy-rock star in the modern era: honest, unapologetic and talented with an incredibly tight band with great tunes.

Metro also hosts with an MC named Chance The Rapper, pairing up with his headlining brother, Taylor Bennett, for a venue-wide birthday celebration.

Denny Laine at Arcada Theatre and Evanston Rocks Jan. 17 and Jan. 18, 2019

Former Wings and Moody Blues guitarist/instrumentalist and songwriter Denny Laine made his rep as Paul McCartney’s right-hand man in his post Beatle project. For some folks, Wings hits are as satisfying as material from the Fab Four, and Laine was in the middle of it all.

He’ll also play tracks from his first band – the Moody Blues from their mid ’60s pop/Merseybeat period. The highlight of the night will be his full album performance of the Wings’ best album. Band On The Run.

Tonight (1/17) at the Arcada Theatre and Friday (1/18) at Evanston Rocks.
