Stage Buzz: Phil Collins at United Center
Can you feel it coming in the air tonight? Phil Collins isnât just âNot Dead Yetâ as the cheeky name to his autobiography, and corresponding concert tour asserts, but heâs coming to the United Center on October 22 as a solo artist for the first time since 2004. That means mounds of hits in his own soulful pop sphere, plus the chance to recall what it sounded like when the veteran Genesis drummer stepped up to the microphone for the progressive/art rock innovators.
Speaking of those âCarpet Crawlers,â longtime guitarist (and our Wisconsin neighbor) Daryl Stuermer will be part of this exceptional band that also includes the headlinerâs teenage son, Nicholas, keeping the beat. Together, they have the potential to slay tunes such as âAgainst All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now),â âAnother Day In Paradise,â âSomething Happened On The Way To Heaven,â âEasy Loverâ and âSussudio,â all of which can be found throughout Collinsâ extensive âTake A Look At Me Nowâ reissue series, which finds each of his multi-platinum albums remastered with a disc of worthwhile bonus material.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer is now 67 and doesnât come around these parts all that often, making this latest Chicago stop all the more urgent. In other words, donât miss the chance before retirement comes calling again and âTake Me Homeâ gets taken to the literal level.
Phil Collins appears at United Center (LiveNation.com) on Monday, October 22.
