Stage Buzz: Jay Astonβs Gene Love Jezebel at Bottom Lounge
Like the Davies (The Kinks) and Gallagher (Oasis) brothers, Jay and Mike Aston have had a hard time getting along both personally and legally, so Gene Loves Jezebel has been offering two touring versions of the band for quite some time.
Like the two versions of UB40, itβs βhard to keep track of players without a scorecard,β but the edge goes to Jayβs Jezebel, by retaining original members of the band (guitarist James Stevenson, bassist Pete Rizzo and drummer Chris Bell) who made their mark in the mid and late β80s when Goth and Batcave bands in Britain took their original punk ideals and glammed them up, along with Flesh For Lulu, Sisters of Mercy, Alien Sex Fiend and The Chameleons. While Michael Aston has been touring for quite some time in the states, Jay Astonβs Gene Loves Jezebel β are a bit more rare to touring the USA β arrive at Bottom Lounge Thursday, Sept 13.
Expect to hear their mid-β80s hits that were in heavy rotation on college radio and MTVβs 120 Minutes, including βDesire,β βJealousβ and βThe Motion of Love.β Plus some new music from their surprisingly competent comeback album, Dance Underwater.
At Bottom Lounge Thursday, September 13.
