Photo Gallery: Foo Fighters at Wrigley Field
Dave Grohl was quite the congenial host on Sunday night. The Foo Fightersâ frontman had gathered tens of thousands of guests and welcomed them into what felt like his backyard. Itâs just that on this particular evening his playground was the baseball temple that is Chicagoâs Wrigley Field. The former Nirvana drummer played the role of the cool high school senior who always throws the kegger.
For the entirety of the evening the music was loud, the language was bawdy and, if you didnât enjoy yourself, well, you obviously went out of your way to not do so. The band rolled out a cavalcade of their Rock Radio hits (âEverlong,â âMonkey Wrench,â âLearn To Flyâ and âMy Heroâ) and even brought out Cheap Trickâs Rick Nielsen for a cover of Fats Dominoâs âAinât That A Shame.â
Somehow, they even managed to convincingly submerge Van Halenâs âJumpâ inside of John Lennonâs âImagine.â Quite apropos, considering that if Foo Fighters had shared an era with those 1970âs giants, it wouldnât be difficult to envision their songs being blasted from a Camaro in a Burger King parking lot on hot summer nights. And as far as rock and roll is concerned, thatâs some mighty high praise.
