The National’s already busy schedule just became a bit more crowded. The Cincinnati quintet has already sold out two shows at Chicago’s Civic Opera House taking place later this month. But when a very popular former President (last name Obama) calls, well, what’s a left-leaning indie rock band to do but answer the call. The band had already agreed to be part of a concert affiliated with the Obama Foundation Summit, which is to take place on November 1 at Wintrust Arena in the South Loop (it also features Chicago’s Chance the Rapper and Gloria Estefan). But they also found time for an intimate performance this past Monday at House of Vans in the West Loop. Curt Baran went on a school night to talk politics, drink free beer and snap some pix. Here’s what he produced at the end of his three-day weekend.
