Stage Buzz: Y&T @ Arcada Theatre
Bay Area hard rockers Y&T are back for their annual spring performance – Saturday (March 12) at the at Arcada Theater in St. Charles.
While their salad days were in the ’80s, the band’s current show is powered by a two-hour set of hits – including “Rescue Me,” “Black Tiger,” and MTV hit, “Summertime Girls,” anchored by founding member guitarist/vocalist Dave Meniketti, guitarist John Nymann and drummer Mike Vanderhule. “New” bassist Brad Lang stepped replacing acclaimed, late bassist Phil Kennemore in 2011.
In their Reagan-era heyday, Y&T only managed to play the Chicago area twice – both at the legendary Aragon Ballroom. Since that time time the band has made Chicago their home-away-from home. “We can’t wait to hit the Arcada Theater. I’m sure it will be killer.” Dave Meniketti told IE driving between gigs, “The Chicago area has always been a strong market for Y&T. We’ve played many successful shows there, from Dio and Ace Frehley in the ’80s, to our recent shows. I remember setting up a very cool live recording of our show there on that Ace [Frehley] tour, because we always knew we would get a great crowd. We’re proud to have such amazing fans from Chicago, and it consistently stands out as a highlight of every US tour.”
Y&T’s latest project is a still-untitled documentary about the history of the band, narrated by Eddie Trunk of That Metal Show. The “rock doc” features hundreds of hours of never-before-seen personal footage, concert clips, interviews.
