Wild Belle

January’s music calendar in Chicago had been a hit and miss affair until the folks at Schubas decided to launch their Tomorrow Never Knows winter music festival in 2004 to heat-up the post holiday lull. Since its debut, the festival has grown to include 5 days of music and comedy at multiple venues, including past emerging acts Grouplove, Sharon Van Etten and Freddie Gibbs. Last year’s performance of UK post-punk legends Wire at Metro was our 2015 highlight.

This year’s line up is highlighted by former Chicago duo (and siblings) Wild Belle, offering up their reggae rocksteady/tropical musings heard on their 2012 album Isles – meshed with new, straightforward, indie tracks from their upcoming Dreamland LP. (Fri 1/15 Metro)

Metro also supplies another good noise-rock double bill of Canadian Sub Pop vets Metz and Lollapalooza and Pitchfork douple-play combo Bully, who combine ’90s guitar noise mayhem with Alicia Bognanno’s primal scream vocals. (Sat 1/16 Metro)

Lincoln Hall offers up the The Go Team! on Saturday. TGT is a mix old Brighton ragga and hip-hop, yolked with garage rock, and ’80s indie rock. Last spring’s The Scene Between was on our Top 20 for 2015. (Sat 1/16 Lincoln Hall)
