LISTEN: The National release single from “Trouble Will Find Me”

Despite glowing recommendations from friends over the years and a memorable Lollapalooza set (who wears a three-piece suit outside in August in Chicago?), we didn’t hop on The National‘s bandwagon until High Violet emerged as the band’s top-selling disc. Something about Matt Berninger’s glum delivery never goaded us into paying proper attention. Then the hypnotic hum of “Bloodbuzz Ohio” opened our eyes like Dorothy’s first gaze upon the psychedelic landscape of Oz.

The band’s highly anticipated sixth album, Trouble Will Find Me (May 21, 4AD), finds the Brooklynites (by way of Ohio) shedding old ghosts. “For the past ten years we’d been chasing something, wanting to prove something,” Berninger said in a release. “And this chase was about trying to disprove our own insecurities.”

The album’s second single, “Don’t Swallow The Cap,” sounds as unsettled as ever. Listen below:
