Jim James put forth his best Michael Jackson moves (his hips really don’t lie), connected with the faithful at the lip of the stage by touching index fingers a la E.T., and became a hairy blur as he wailed away on his Flying V guitar during a sold-out stop at the Vic Theatre on April 20. The uplifting two-hour set marked James’ first Chicago appearance to promote his solo outing, Regions Of Light And Sound Of God. When we interviewed James for our February cover story, the My Morning Jacket frontman couldn’t wait to take this collection of tunes on the road. We can only await his return with the same excitement after Saturday’s display, which can only be described as spiritual. Although, he can nix the eight-minute drum solos next time.
