Pedal To The Metal
(Century Media)
Pedal To The Metal might be the year’s oddest record. Camaro-gunnin’ ’80s hard rock (check out album cover) combined with breakdown-adoring metalcore and and synthesizer-lovin’, er, sythnesizers.
And the hair metal pseudonyms must be mentioned: guitarist Shred Sean and Robbie Hart, keyboardist Simon Fox, and drummer Da Bird. Vocalist Tony Gambino went the hip-hop/mobster-alias route. This album, full of over-the-top, borderline glam anthems about risky women (“She Wolf” – not Megadeth’s version, though no worse), movin’ to the rhythm now that school’s out (“Move Your Body”), and never growing up – it’s overrated, after all – (“To Be Young”) exemplifies the bizarre roster Century Media – formerly a haven for the hard, heavy, and hellish – has built in the last two years.
“Motley Crue meets Journey,” Brokenheart’s bio claims. We say Atreyu meets The Breakfast Club.
