Earlimart preview
Earlimart
Hideout, Chicago
Saturday, July 26, 2008
Nonchalant indie rockers Earlimart dropped two members and broke their customary, three-year stretch to post Hymn And Her (Majordomo) within a year of their last album, Mentor Tormentor. How does this blistering pace manifest itself?
Hymn is hardly the document of a band in flux, characterizing the year as even less of an uncertain pause than any of their other recording intervals. Former bandmates won’t be lashed out at, nor will the shackles of midtempo dreampop be dashed against the rocks. It’s an absolute reassurance, too. Ariana Murray breathily intones “it’s gonna get worse” without desperation, yet sounds positively devastated compared to Aaron Espinoza’s “For The Birds” and “Teeth.” If haste makes waste? Sheeit. More please.
Peter & The Rabbits open. Earlimart also play an in-store at Reckless Records’ Wicker Park location (1532 N. Milwaukee) at 6 p.m.
