Sweet Danger
(LDR)
Hard to believe it has been about 15 years since this downstate product was racking up the gold and platinum records.
Appearing: September 16th at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn.
Bogguss’ decision not to hike up her skirt to improve sales in the late ’90s may have proven fatal to her major-label career, but it has made for an easy transition into the contemporary folk fold. (Though somewhat ironically, she’s showing a lot of leg on the album jacket and inserts.) She a/c’s it up on the soaring “In Heaven,” lurks in the shadows on the jazzy “Chain Lover,” kicking things off overall with a strutting “The Bus Ride.” While she does have a go at a talk-sing-rap thing on “No Good Way To Go,” Bogguss is best when she doesn’t have to step into a role, which is why “Right Back Into The Feeling” is the best thing going on Sweet Danger.
