Chicago Rocks preview

Chicago Rocks
Abbey Pub
Metro, Chicago
June 8 and 9, 2007

AllNatural

Now in its fifth year, the Chicago Rocks festival remains the biggest and best showcase of our city’s hip-hop talent. This two-night event thrown by local production team The Molemen (Panik, PNS, and Memo) is the one occasion where you’re guaranteed to see acts representing all sounds and sides of the city.

With Chicago Rocks, The Molemen ignore the notion groups should stay within their supposed scenes (backpack, club, etc.), and this year, the variety is more pronounced than ever. Day one at the Abbey looks promising with righteous rhymer Iomos Marad, gangsta-leaning act Payroll, and Ivy League-educated yet everyday-cat Nalegde all appearing.

Day two at the Metro is looking even better. For one, after being out of the spotlight for years, gold-selling rapid-fire rappers Crucial Conflict will headline. Moreover the rabidly popular dance DJ duo Flosstradamus will make a notable juxtaposition by sharing the same stage as indie hip-hop vets All Natural.

And that’s exactly what the Molemen aim to achieve with this once-a-year event — an anything goes experience that leaves no hip-hop artist behind.

Friday’s show is 18 and up; Saturday is all ages.

Where would I find a review of the Chris Isaak show last friday night, june 8, at the Charter One Pavilion?? I was lucky enough to be pulled on stage by him and would like to find out how I could get a copy of the DVD of the evening. Any help would be appreciated… Who does reviews for awesome shows like that?

Looked like a dope event, show casing chi-town’s “up & coming stars.” Another noteworthy event coming up in Chi-town is the Yaris dj/sneakerhead battle on June 28th at Alhambra Palace from 7pm-11pm. Celebrity judges include DJ Clark Kent with performances from Truck North & Dice Raw from the Roots Crew. Event is FREE all you have to do is rsvp at http://www.yarisversusyaris.com/. Just passing along the info since I work with Toyota.
