Georgia (state)-based quartet Boyskout are led by A.D.D. artist Leslie Satterfield, who doesn’t sound as scattered as you’d think.

Satterfield shifted from drawing to photography to music all by the time she was 20, leaving little doubt she was creative — but few clues as to ever being able to focus. Offered the opportunity to open for a favorite band one night, she hastily assembled Boyskout and the effects are still felt on Another Life. Relying on Sleater-Kinney for a base, the album is rife with identity crises. But, the deeper one dives the poppier it gets. While opener “Spotlight” and talky “Happy Yet?” traverse familiar grrrl-group territory, Satterfield’s most natural-sounding escapades (“Everybody Knew” and “You’re Not Around”) weld cooing power pop with ’60s radio-girl-group perk. This will only matter if she sticks with Boyskout long enough to see them through; it has already been three years, though, so maybe she will.
