Get It To Go
(Good Forks)
Portland’s Jolenes remind you to visit the dentist after listening to their sticky sweet guitar pop.
Like Veruca Salt before them, The Jolenes parlay girliness into an incredible asset on Get It To Go. Mind you, most of the quartet’s dozen songs are fairly interchangable, but that doesn’t keep it from staying mostly fresh and airy throughout. “Pedro” is faux-Latina alt pop that cheekily tosses out basic Spanish (“Donde está . . . el baño”) while opener “Ice Cream” typifies their knack for not-so-innocent innuendo. Wearing torn fishnets with thigh-high cocktail dresses is too L7 or Babes In Toyland for this crew; it wouldn’t fly in Courtney Love’s Malibu.
