Escape The Fate
Dying Is Your Latest Fashion
(Epitaph)

Epitaph upstarts Escape The Fate yin and yang about stardom and punk purity.

ETF

According to their bio, ETF are split down the middle in their pursuits: vocalist Ronnie wants the band to be mysterious as it goes for the brass ring; guitarist Omar wants to level the industry and start it anew. Aside from the blistering intensity, it appears Ronnie is winning. Dying Is Your Latest Fashion is a big, rock record with Bic-waving interludes (“Chariots”), chunky riffing, and anthemic, multi-tracked choruses. The frustrating thing is their ambition stops at the need to inflict any sort of identity upon the musical landscape. Ranking alongside any number of bands who have elements of Bad Religion, All American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights — you get the picture — it’ll take a little more than the two-headed monster in their publicity materials to get them what they so conflictingly want.
