The Countdown recorded and mixed at THE MATTRESS FACTORY in Chicago with Martin Atkins (PIL, Nine Inch Nails, Pigface), owner of Invisible Records. They are working on a full-length album, which will be the follow-up to the 2004 EP Scratch & Sniff. The LP will be released this winter.

Digable Cat are in the final mixing stages of their forthcoming 12-song full-length album, Letters From Your Dreams, at ELECTRIC GARYLAND STUDIOS in Chicago. The sessions were engineered and mixed by Gary Yek. Special guests include Eric Remschneider (Smashing Pumpkins’ Siamese Dream) on cello and Abstract Giants, who lent vocals to a cover of The Bee Gees’ “Stayin’ Alive,” currently available on iTunes.

At ENERGY COMMAND STUDIOS in Arlington Heights, singer-songwriter Gwen Greer and her band The Certain Someones, with Byron Harlan, Anthony Gajkowski, Don Carlsson, and Aimee Tierra, recorded a three-song demo. The tracks were produced and engineered by David Banks and mixed by Amo Schmeisser . . . A Better Place To Be worked on five new tracks. Schmeisser and Banks engineered and mixed the project . . . Kim Wilkens recorded lead vocals for two tracks with Lovejelly . . . Glasgow, Scotland band Terra Diablo prepared for their next album with Nocturnal Records.

At THE I.V. LAB in Chicago, Rachael Yamagata (RCA) finished overdubs with Sean O’Keefe for her next release . . . The Smoking Popes# recorded new material with producer Dan Duszynski . . . #Patrick Stump (Fall Out Boy) put together a remix of The Sounds (New Line) for the Snakes On A Plane soundtrack. Manny Sanchez mixed . . . Brendan Bayliss (Umphrey’s McGee) and Jeff Austin (Yonder Mountain String Band) started recording songs for a forthcoming album together; Sanchez engineered . . . Cameron McGill And What Army finished overdubs and mixed their new record with Sanchez.

Vell Mullens tracked vocals for three Restless Monarch songs at STROBE RECORDING in Chicago. Further tracking and mixing will be done at Kudzai Kasambira’s 2020 VISION DESIGN STUDIO in Peoria. Restless Monarch’s debut EP is scheduled for an October release.

At SOUNDSCAPE STUDIOS in Chicago, Michael Kolar mixed four songs for the forthcoming Molemen album, including tracks from Rhymefest, Saigon (of HBO “Entourage” fame), Pen & Littles (from Queens Bridge, New York), and Brother Ali (Rhymesayers). All four songs were produced by Memo, co-CEO of Molemen records, and were recorded in the A Room . . . Sean Nunan has begun recording Molemen Records artist Rhyme Scheme‘s new album in the B-Room. The album will feature beats by Panic, Memo, and P.N.S. . . . The revamp of the B Room is complete and sessions are currently being booked.

Renowned recording engineer/mixer Jeff Poe passed away August 5th. Poe was the first engineer to win a Record Of The Year Grammy when he took home the award in 1999 for his role on Santana’s Supernatural. The Los Angeles resident worked with a who’s who list of music figures, including Guns N’ Roses, Madonna, Bob Dylan, Michael Jackson, Kiss, and Ricky Martin. Records he worked on have sold more than 120 million copies. Poe suffered a massive heart attack; he was 47-years old.
