Every 10 minutes a new fad comes along and there’s a another band within two minutes to stamp it out and proclaim “Return to rock!”

Well, here at 12:01 are Rose Hill Drive, ready with classic rock and chunky chords to stomp out whatever has entranced rock journalists. At some point, however, revivalism will grow into self parody, and Rose Hill Drive seem prepared to grab the torch. “The Guru” is a generic, trained reclamation of ’70s arena rock valor, unflinching in its traditionalism. A highly reverbed guitar solo in one channel? Mock clumsy drum fills in the other? Sheeeit. Scavenging the liners for irony only ends in frustration: this is cock rock verbatim — you can raise your fists or leave the bar.
