Krak Attack
(Sound Ink)
Atlanta hip-hop O.D.J. makes his personal debut and wastes little time establishing how f’d up he can get.
All over the g’damn place and flighty as 3 Feet High And Rising, for every incongruency between CX Kidtronik and mainstream hip-hop, there’s a depressing shared strain. Krak Attack isn’t so much about drugs as butt crack. That choice was his and it shouldn’t be condemned simply because we expect black artists to wax about life in the hood or what life’s really like in the hood. Krak Attack is too long (an hour) and weaves more chintzy Wu/Doom samples than you’d care to know, and then totally deflates at the end with the woozy one-two of “Once Upon A Crime” and “Thru The Cracks.” Skittering and dip-di-dipping never distracts from the core plumber’s butt focus, making you wonder if the former K.I.N (with Saul Williams) and Furthur 3 MCs playa didn’t shoot from before his time to past his prime.
