Sorry About The Flowers
(One Percent Press)
Athens, Georgia, still pumps out the college rock bands, and it was only a matter of time before Venice Is Sinking, steeped in Galaxie 500, studied abroad.
Capped ultimately by the shimmering anthem “CSX” — disregarding the 19-minute, closing sculpture — Sorry About The Flowers dreams of overcast skies and quiet restraint. Co-vocalists Danile Lawson and Karolyn Troupe trade lines naturally, rarely coming into disturbing contact with Low, Yo La Tengo, or Delgados. Instead, the pining strings of “Arkansas” and acoustic jangle of “Tours” Americanize them under their Empire fetish.
