Bob Sinclair
Western Dream
(Tommy Boy)
What happens when hedonism and idealism collide? Well it could be this carefree dance mix, but it’s unlikely.
French house music architect Bob Sinclair loads Western Dream with Caribbean optimism and spirit, and if it’s these simple ingredients required to spare the Earth its fate, he has it wrapped up. As things are, however, this is just an upbeat club CD that’s eclectic — check the slinky slide guitar on “Tennessee” — while mostly staying between the lines. It immediately loses a full quarter-percentage of points for tapping into “Everybody Dance Now” and being as artificially upbeat as the neighborhood news anchor, Sinclair mostly avoids deferring to revamping ’80s super hits while tapping into the cheerier elements of Afro-pop.
