Tide-you-over EP from stark San Franciscans begins with a thwack.
Once again, Dee Kesler wastes no time in detailing the perils of his forlorn existence, introducing “Monkey Vs. Shark” with “Washing my feet in the shower/I slipped and let out a cry.” It’s an appropriate start as any for Thee More Shallows, who sound like Grandaddy on all the wrong meds (“Phineas Bogg”). Working with only seven songs this time through (including an interlude, a remix, and a cover of Al Green’s “I Can’t Get Next To You”) still encapsulates them well. As summer approaches night grows shorter.
