Stoley P.T. CD Review

| May 10, 2006

Stoley P.T.
Lesson #1
(In Music We Trust)

Former Q101 DJ/Lupins frontman Stoley comes to us with his P(ower). (Trio).

While it might want its influences to be a little more significant (claiming Pixies and Pavement), Lesson #1 is most reminiscent of alt-rock’s hey day of ’94 and ’95. Back then Weezer and Green Day were merely the faces of a movement full of smartasses. Armed with the knowledge they might actually get on the radio, bands like Superdrag, Gren, and The Figgs poured distortion and power pop surges over clumsy verses and geek affectations faster than you could say “horn-rimmed glasses.” This isn’t a knock on Issues, more a testament to its boundless energy and intended dispensability. Stoley P.T. is fun, but this fun is over.
