One River
(Tell All)
John Vanderslice’s aide-de-camp in the studio pours forth his second ambient work.
One River, we’re told, is inspired by water in all of its facets, though most directly through depth, flow, and undercurrent. Moving seamlessly through seven tracks in 35 minutes, Solter’s muse is more faucet than rapids, a hypnotic blend of guitar processors an alleged stray voice provided by Wendy Allen. Far from the chintzy gloss of nature sounds, Solter paints a fairly solemn canvas where his river is the artery, and that it stops is almost terrifying.
