I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight

| May 10, 2006

High School prom offers very few good memories for us. Dipshit DJs trying to teach the Chicken Dance, hours spent in an uncomfortable tux, a near concussion suffered during a “friendly” bout of jousting, and the never-came-to-be after-prom kegger that was thwarted by goody-goody parents.

WLUW 88.7 must feel our pain, because they are giving us, and you, a chance to do it all over again. The non-commercial, community radio station has decided to revive its Indie Rock Prom (held once before in 2000) for Saturday (May 13th) at the Logan Sq. Auditorium.

No “Y.M.C.A.,” “Cotton Eye Joe,” or “Friends In Low Places” at this prom, though. Instead the boys and girls at Indie Rock Prom will get live music from The National Trust and Scotland Yard Gospel Choir and sets from the Life During Wartime DJs and Erik and Ali of WLUW’s “Think Pink.” Formal wear isn’t required, but keep in mind there will be contests for best prom wear. There will even be flower sales so you can buy your honey a corsage (It won’t help you get lucky, though. Despite what movies tell us, nobody actually gets laid on prom night) and a Polaroid station so you can forever remember the magical night!

Tickets can be purchased at the Empty Bottle Web site (www.emptybottle.com). Admission is $15 for losers without a date and $25 for couples. For more information visit www.wluw.org.
