Country mice head to the city.
Spiraling off in a wooden rollercoaster of Velvet Underground ruckus, Oakley Hall seem to leave behind the Americana on which they once leaned. The band return, assuredly, on “Living In Sin In The USA,” but by then there’s no way back. In the span of three songs, the New York-based sextet expand their sonic palette by purchasing the neighbor’s farm, or in this case, condo development. There’s still rustic fun to be had in the banjo-tinged “Bury Your Burden” and stomping “If I Was In El Dorado,” the latter of which finds Rachel Cox sympathetically aiding Pat Sullivan’s strained voice, but Gypsum Strings will forever be Oakley Hall’s rock record.
