Run Like The Whirlwind
Whirlwind Heat
Types Of Wood
(Brille)

One looks at the name and album cover of Types Of Wood and wonders, why can’t the music be this sharp?
Doing his best Thurston Moore on opener “Kill Me” — the band’s name is itself a reference to Sonic Youth cover art — David Swanson is all too ready shapeshift through Types Of Wood to make it matter. Trying deperately to be a second ahead, Whirlwind Heat have been lagging behind in the promise bequeathed them when Jack White began affiliating with them back in 2000. While a fantastic musician, White has proven to be a laughable talent scout with these turds and Brendan Benson. Jokes laced throughout Wood notwithstanding, the last laugh is certainly not Whirlwind’s. “I thought of myself as a mechanical bull”? No, you’re the kind of thing that sucks, not bucks.
