Kahoots CD Review
Kahoots
Fourteen Ghosts
(I & Ear)
The spirit of The Feelies lives in these darling, jangling boys.
If there was ever a true college or indie rock sound, Kahoots have it. The sound of barre chords changing at high tempos, nearly spoken vocals, occasional freak outs — basically how you’d describe early Pavement if they weren’t so cloyingly eccentric. It’s the clean-tone sound of The Go-Betweens, Luna, Yo La Tengo, The Dead Milkmen, Violent Femmes, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah: nerds, basically. Occasionally all about the pretty melody like “The New Colds,” Fourteen Ghosts sprints by in a messy squall of corduroy, hoodies, English and philosophy major syllabuses, Japanese Stratocasters, and bongwater.
