Mr. Gnome CD Review
Mr. Gnome
Echoes On The Ground
(Mr. Gnome)
Cleveland rocks, albeit angrily and vindictively.
Already an EP, Mr. Gnome’s Echoes On The Ground whisks past in a torrent of damaged, garage rock noise. Comparisons to Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kills, and early White Stripes aren’t without merit at least artificially, though Nicolle Barille and Sam Meister currently rank ferocity and aesthetic above fleshed-out songs and depth. “Westown” amazingly manages to keep its feet after a series of starts and stops, while “El Marko” slithers across the floor. Whether Mr. Gnome learn to walk remains a mystery.
