Change In Your Pocket?
The folks at 88.7 WLUW ain’t beatin’ around the bush. The message is simple: Give ’em some money.
The station, which offers a wide variety of news, music, arts, and community programming, has launched its annual fundraising campaign, which staffers (two full-time; more than 200 volunteers) hope will raise $50,000, or one-third of the yearly operating budget. Broadcasting from the Loyola campus in Rogers Park, WLUW does not receive funding from the University, government, or corporations — meaning 100 percent of its budget must be raised through fundraising efforts, special events, and small grants. WLUW’s vast array of programming includes everything from Bible study and sports to death metal and book readings.
The fundraiser’s two-week window is nearly closed, but until Friday, March 3rd, the station will feature live performances, special giveaways, and major prize drawings. WLUW has an assortment of thank-you gifts (T-shirts, posters, CDs, books, etc.) for those who donate. If that’s you, call (773) 508-7300 between 7 a.m. and 10 p.m. or donate online at www.wluw.org/donate/index.cfm.
