Tricked Out
Trick-Trick
The People Vs.
(Motown)
D-Town MC was unhappy about his December 27th release date; he’s lucky Motown Records went ahead with this stillborn album.
The hype behind Trick-Trick is he was picked up for murder a couple of years ago and, after going to trial, beat the rap. Great story, bad rapper. If that’s what hip-hop has come to (i.e. a good bio beats talent), fine, we’ll probably find someone with flow in one of every 15. Instead of anything approaching the insight provided by Beanie Sigel or Tupac (save the Eminem-inspired “Lady”), having his life put on the line hasn’t distracted Trick-Trick from his pimpin’, shorty, and if you can produce some photographs of a Bentley, word. Otherwise we get tossed off verses from Eminem and Proof, and some curly vocalizing from the suddenly ubiquitous Jazze Pha. Even if they believed him, maybe the jury should have convicted; if he didn’t, maybe he should have. Justice has failed the record industry.
