MLTKK Go Disco

My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult
Gay, Black And Married
(Ryko)

One of the most promising entrants into industrial dance are an erratic mess. This is the long-rumored disco tribute.

Having the luxury of never witnessed anyone die or (imminently) dying, the saddest thing I’ve ever seen happened in Amsterdam. I was with friends at a sex show, where a man dressed as the Adam West Batman fornicated with a pornstar-dimensioned woman so dispassionately to be stomach churning. It was an almost clinical display of why sex shouldn’t be taboo, bluntly so.

MLTKK not only helped build Wax Trax! in Chicago, but Interscope as well. So goddamn cutting-edge was their sexploitation it merited its own category and seemed to be doing whatever it was Al Jourgensen was repressing. But once Nine Inch Nails made it O.K., things fell apart. Compilations like Dirty Little Secrets in 1999 have dictated direction more than anything, becoming soundtracks to passion-deprived Dutch sex shows, not anything remotely felt. Conforming to the porno soundscapes they were apparently rebelling against when they were new, Gay, Black And Married is yet another anonymous collection disguised as honoring disco. Turn her over, she’s done.
