Hunters, Run! review
Hunters, Run!
Broken Sounds
(self released)
Falling asleep making lo-fi bedroom rock and dreaming of stadium glory.
“At your funeral I’m gonna get drunker/than I’ve ever been before” would probably be a safer bet to open a Faron Young album, but for pieced-together Hunters, Run! it’s the onset of a Hüsker Dü-styled bumrush. “A Tango In Youngstown” culls the freewheeling indie rock of Superchunk, while a lonely, classic rock solo intros “Sweet Deal On The Murder House” before invoking Phil Collins. Contrasting the quick attention spans of early lo-fi heroes (what planet is the title track from?), however, Hunters, Run! run a little long on Broken Sounds, draining some of its power. It’s still, however, an august symbiosis of old and older fi.
