Photo Gallery: Riot Fest 2019 – Day One

Industry reports indicate summer festival attendance is down across the country, but Riot Fest’s healthy crowds show that the 15-year-old homegrown punk and indie rock festival is not suffering from a lack of dedicated fans. Friday’s RF 2019 kick-off delivered a virtually sold-out crowd (it was packed) in Douglas Park in near-perfect September weather.

Day One in Lawndale didn’t disappoint – commencing with Australian pop/punk rockers Yours Truly plus the Cream City’s finest musical export the Violent Femmes.  Solid sets by Anti-Flag, Caroline Rose, Neck Deep, Cock Sparrer, The Get Up Kids, Lucero, Pennywise, Rancid, Dashboard Confessional and an incredibly energizing evening set by The Descendents rocked at dusk. Friday’s heavy winds in the park challenged sonic consistency on the Roots and Rise stages (but was resolved as the winds died down). As expected, Blink-182 (performing Enema of The State), Pennywise and The Flaming Lips delivered joyous festival-closing sets on Riot Fest’s first day.
