Photo Gallery: Remembering Shawn Smith of Brad

| April 15, 2019

IE’s Ed Spinelli befriended the late Shawn Smith of Brad (who passed away tragically April 6th) during his days photographing Seattle’s emerging grunge scene in the ’90s, which included Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. In the following gallery, Spinelli captured one of the band’s greatest gigs, including a headlining performance from Brad, a reunited Mother Love Bone with Smith guesting on vocals, and an all-star band of  Seattle music vets including original Brad members Pete Droge, Regan Hagar and Brad/Pearl Jam’s Stone Gossard, plus PJ’s Jeff Ament.

SeattlePi.com called Brad Smith “one of the most underrated vocalists of the grunge era and his voice, which prominently features a finely pitched falsetto, that made him an easily recognizable, albeit somewhat obscure, player from the city’s glory days with the g-word.”

Spinelli gives IE readers a photographic tribute to Shawn Smith on these first-ever published photos of Brad and friends at Showbox at the Market in Seattle, WA on 4/14/2010.
